What is a funnel builder?

A funnel builder a piece of software, usually SAAS (cloud-based), that you can use to build funnels and pages online. If you’re thinking about making anything online, you should really consider getting one. But to decide which funnel builder is the best, you’ll need to read a little.

You’ve probably read a thing or two about funnels already, but if you haven’t, here’s a short resume.

The funnel

The funnel is a common word for a sales process that includes upgrades or related offers to be offered at the time of purchase.

This process usually starts with a simple page. Whether it’s a sales page or an optin page where you collect your subscribers, it does not really matter. After you make a conversion (a sale, an optin, etc), you can simply forward your customer to the thank-you page. Here, you invite them to share your link or something similar. It’s where you provide your delivery links, also.

This works and is a great way of doing things.

But – imagine your link getting a 100 visits per week, and your conversion rate being real high, like 50% (just to calculate easier). So, 50 people will buy/subscribe to your list and will get access to what you promissed to them. All fine, right? It is, but you have to be aware that this is ALL YOU GET – these 50 sales/optins. To scale up, you’ll have to bring more visitors. And then some more. And so on. And traffic could be really expensive, you know.

Redirecting to a funnel is a better idea

Now, here’s an idea: since your visitor already converted to a buyer, you can be sure he’s ready to pay for your stuff. So instead of letting him go on his way and trying to get him to your other offer, you can do something much better. You can immediately offer him another thing to buy, maybe an upgrade to the basic offer, or something related. A few things are in your favor here:

  • The visitor already expressed his will to purchase your stuff.
  • By that fact alone, you can be sure he’s interested in this stuff.
  • He’s holding his credit card in his hand in this very moment….

In short, there’s a very good chance he’d be willing to spend a few more dollars on your upgraded or related offer.

How to build a funnel

So, you have an ebook that people really want. Let’s say it’s all about Bitcoin (yes, hot topic). You wrote it because you know about Bitcoin, and you may be considered an expert to most people.

You use your WordPress website and build an optin page, where you give away the ebook to the people who subscribe to your list.

Email marketing is not a topic of this post. Read about it HERE.

After the visitor subscribes, he gets redirected to a thank-you page where he can download the promised ebook. All well and fine.

Scaling up

Now, instead of redirecting him to the thank-you page, you’d better redirect him to an upgrade page. This is the page where you offer him an upgraded offer that somehow complements what he already has. It can be an additional ebook, a software, or a training you’re providing to the interested. Usually, these upgrades cost more than the initial offer. Most of the money, in reality, is made right here, because the initial offer has to be as low-priced as possible in order to be as interesting as it can get.

And if your conversion rate at the optin (or initial offer) is at 50%, rest assured that the upgrade offer will probably be as high as that and probably even higher. Why? Because unlike the people seeing your initial offer, people who come to the upgrade are already filtered out and proven to be interested. So usually this makes the sales easier, provided your upgrade offer is related and of good quality, of course.

The basic math

Please note that the 50% conversion is extremely high and here only for easier calculation. It’s around 10-20% in the real world.

Front end offer you’re selling for $7:

  • Visits: 100;
  • Conversions: 50%, i.e. 50;
  • You earn $350.

Upgrade 1, you’re charging $17:

  • Visits: 50 (the people that converted in the FE offer);
  • Conversion: 50%, i.e. 25;
  • You earn additional $425.

See? The outcome is more than twice the amount initially earned via the front end offer.

And you could add more offers into a funnel, all the way to a high-ticket training that is worth $997, for instance. Only one sale would bring your outcome to a whopping $1,772 when added to the described funnel. And all that from a 100 visits, you’ll say. Yes, it’s possible, if you find a really targeted group of visitors. Otherwise, no, it’s not likely, sorry to break the news to you.

But you get the picture, right? It’s really quite simple.

If you want to multiply your earnings per visitor, use a funnel instead of a single offer.

How to build a sales funnel

Actually, just about any technology you use to build web sites is able to serve as a base tool. If you’re skilled enough, building a funnel with pure HTML coding is easily possible. But honestly, I don’t see any reason to do that, as it’s just calling for trouble, really.

Imagine that after a week you decide to change something inside your funnel. Nah, I don’t even want to think how much work that would mean.

A wordpress theme, such as Divi, has anything you might need to build funnels. But again, it can get really messy and complicated when you have to make changes, because you’d have to be really careful not to miss something imoprtant. It does work, though, and I have several funnels built right within this very site – for instance, Adplify is one of them (check the sales page here).

What I’ve found out is exactly the complexity of such funnels. It took me a few days to put that funnel together for Adplify, and it only has two products with two downsells. So, counting the thank you pages, it’s just 6 pages that I’ve built with Divi builder. The magic of the funnel however is in the details, and the most important of them is how these pages are connected to each other. In other words, in the way the visitor is redirected between them.

Using a pro funnel builder

What happens to be the most troublesome about building funnels directly within WordPress is definitely the responsiveness of the pages. If you want yout offer to convert well, the pages have to load fast and without delays or even errors. WordPress, unless hosted on a really good server, is not your best bet here. It tends to get slower and slower, besides that, you have to take care about the neccessary upgrades and possible troubles with them… A lot of work and a lot of space for errors.

Which is why I started looking out for a funnel builder. But deciding about which funnel builder to use, well, that’s harder. And it depends greatly on your budget, too.

Which funnel builder to use?

There are three builders I have tried in-depth this year. These are

  • ClickFunnels ($97/month – $297/month)
  • Convertri ($75/month)
  • Funnelvio ($97 one-time via this link)

If you’re reading this, I can safely guess you’re not completely new to online marketing, therefore I suppose you’ve heard of them before. At least ClickFunnels, which is like the “king” of them all in respect to features included as well as pricing.

There are different things they do, what they all have in common is they are cloud based. Anything you do is done in a cloud app that takes care or everything, you don’t have to download anything, and you don’t have to install anything (like WordPress). Most importantly, you don’t have to worry about saving things on time, taking backups and upgrading things. Believe me, it’s worthed, especially of you get far enough to start living off of your funnels.

ClickFunnels

This is an all-mighty, all-powerful and all-inclusive funnel builder that lets you build funnels, pages and sites, as well as membership sites. Unfortunately, its pricing is what deters many, especially if they’re in the beginning of the journey. And seriously, to pay $297 monthly for a tool, you have to earn at least 20 times that amount. I’m not there (yet), in case you wandered. 🙁

Convertri

Convertri is a serious funnel buider, made in UK. It has almost everything, but in comparison to ClickFunnels, it is missing membership sites builder. On the other hand, since 2021, it has a funnel design tool called Simulatri included, which you can also buy separately. You can use it to draw out funnels, and using parameters like pricing and traffic, you can get pretty detailed calculations of what you can expect from the funnel in real world. This way, you’ll know whether to expect profits or loss when you build the funnel for real. And when you’re satisfied, Convertri offers a great option to create the funnel for you, following the draft you used for simulations. Great.

But the strongest thing about Convertri seems to be the speed of the sites built with it.

No matter what I did, I was not able to come close to it using any other tool. And since the responsiveness of the website counts a lot today, and a mere second shorter loading time means almost 30% better conversions, it’s very important. Well, the guys at Convertri know a thing or two about that, and they’ve used their knowledge to create a really great product.

No matter what, Convertri is the funnel builder of my choice, and I’ve paid $697 for the first year just a little over a month ago.

FunnelVio

FunnelVio is a part of Kyvio family (Neil Napier). I’m also using their Mailvio software (autoresponder) and have great trust in them.

Funnelvio is a bit more limited regarding the features included, but it’s very reasonable priced and actually the best choice if you’re just starting out. It has all the main features like ClickFunnels and Convertri, it just takes a bit more time. It also supports something they call smart products that you can include, and it’s actually a very powerful software.

Summary

No matter which funnel builder you choose to use, you can expect a bit of a learning curve to master it. It’s not likely you’ll have a funnel done by the next day after logging in. But, you’ll be well on your way to a success online, as you’ll be able to build more and more complex funnels that will bring you more and more profits.

Personally, I have decided for Convertri. If you’re interested in Convertri powers, you can see the full presentation HERE.

Thank you for reading this post. I hope I’ve helped you decide upon which funnel builder to use for your online business.
